About DTP

Diphtheria is a bacterial infection of the respiratory system that affects the throat and nose. The disease can spread through respiratory droplets and secretions or when you come into contact with a cut skin. Tetanus is caused by bacteria that get into your body from an open cut. Polio is a virus that causes death or paralysis body.

The DPT vaccine protects you from 3 diseases, Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis. The 3 diseases can put you at risk of disability, long-term complications, or even death. Consider taking a vaccination before traveling since your area of destination might have a higher or lower degree of the mentioned diseases. An injury in your area of destination can put you at risk of Tetanus and Diptheria .

Diphtheria is still a risk for unvaccinated travellers to countries with low uptake of diphtheria-containing vaccines. Generalised tetanus is responsible for most cases, associated with intense, painful contractions and spasms of skeletal muscles. Even with intensive medical support, death occurs in 10 to 20% of cases. Most individuals (about 95%) who acquire polio do not develop symptoms.

Vaccines are available to protect against all three diseases, and it is essential to make sure that you and your family are up-to-date on vaccinations. By doing so, you can help ensure that everyone is protected from these potentially serious illnesses.
